The newest camera to Nikon's DSLR lineup is the D3300. The D3300 is a compact DSLR with a 24.2-megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor and an EXPEED 4 image processor. The camera, constructed with carbon fiber, is 4.9" x 3.8" x 2.9" and has an ergonomic grip that is easy to hold for extended amounts of time. The camera also maintains an optical viewfinder (a feature that is harder and harder to come by).
Following the current trend in camera sensor technology, the D3300, like other a growing number of other cameras, is lacking an optical low pass filter (OLPF). The lack of the OLPF helps increase image resolution and sharpness. The EXPEED 4 image processor promises to offer "...improved image quality at high ISOs, enhanced auto white balance performance, faster processing speeds and improved battery efficiency." Speaking of ISOs, the D3300 boasts a wide ISO range of 100-12,800 (expandable up to 25,600). The camera offers an 11-point Autofocus System and has a continuous shooting of up to 5 frames-per-second. The D3300 will accept Nikon's WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter for Wi-Fi connectivity. His allows users to instantly upload images and videos to a smartphone or tablet. Users can also remotely control the D3300 using their smart device as a remote "Live View" monitor. The Nikon D3300 offers 13 in-camera Effects and includes four new effects modes. These new modes include Photo Illustration, Super Vivid and Pop, and Easy Panorama Mode. Full 1080p HD 60p video is also included on this camera. The D3300 offers full-time AF (autofocus) during video capture.
A cool feature on the D3300 for those new to photography is called "Guide Mode." Guide Mode teaches the basic functions of the camera to make the user understand the functionality of the camera. It breaks down the information into easily digestible, on-camera snippets.18-55mm f/3.5-5.6GAlong with this camera, Nikon is also announcing the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II lens (27-82.5mm, 35mm equivalent). The lens features a new retractable barrel design (similar to the Nikon 1 NIKKOR lenses). This compact design makes the D3300/lens combo about 30% smaller and 25% lighter than its predecessor.
